Isolated Words
To an American, the first floor of a building is on the ground level while to someone from the UK, it’s the first floor that’s above the ground level.
To a European, the word ‘liberal’ is related to free-market economics and has more commonalities with the right-wing American Republican Party than with the left-wing American Democratic Party. On the other hand, American liberals would likely identify themselves as Democrats.
These 2 examples serve to remind us that that same word or phrase can hold different meanings in different countries. It’s important to note that the context and the target audience matter.
