The Words that Weaving Has Given Us
Weaving has been an integral part of everyday life of humanity, especially pre-industrial life, and this can be seen by its significant impact on the English language.
For example, the English word text comes from the Latin word testus, which is the past participle of the Latin verb texere (to weave).
Having this information, we know that the words context and texture are etymologically-related as well. And now, when we think about the definition of the word textile, its etymology appears to be obvious and to be jumping at us.
One can imagine that in antiquity, it was important to note how multiple designs within the same tapestry looked in context as a coherent whole and how the texture of a certain everyday garment was.
